Finish Line/”Opposites attract”

 biSince the start of this course I militate for this idea that the force for an NGO is given by the connection with big business; and a sustainable relationship can be with a company. I had this idea for the last blog post and I did some research to find out the pro’s and con’s. A very good explanation was on the IISD’s website, where I found also the title for this post (I find it very inspirational). Check the website here:

I agree with the fact that social networks helps an NGO evolving, but its not a reliable and safe source. On the internet a subject can receive major interest today and tomorrow everybody will forgot. Social networks are like a circle made by information which orbits always. Think about the IceBucketCheallenge which was a huge campaign on the internet one month ago and now almost everybody forgot it. This applies for PAGE too. My opinion is that the more people involved the better. I am not saying that they should neglect this aspect at all, but it’ll be prolific for them if they will try to establish connections with business and companies with the same core values as them.

An NGO and a company can help each other. The company can be a donor or a source of human resources but maybe you think “How the NGO can help a company?”. For example, my beliefs for PAGE are that they can be a source of advice and guidance. The cause for this NGO is not a world wide issue so they have to act on the local region. I did some research and in less than five minutes I found 9 big companies in the Asheville region. So there are possibilities to ask for help. 

It is not necessary to give money to the NGO, they can give them products or helping them in another ways, which will be also helpful. One of my idea busted when I found a stationery factory, close to their region. PAGE can create a brand which can be sold and part of the amount can go to the NGO and the other to the factory. Many factories practices that. In this way the factory will ear the trust of the customers. 

Another idea can be based on a change. Because everywhere is a leak of workforce and also people hardly find a job, the companies can help the girls to develop strong knowledge and then help them and give them a job. This will be helpful for the girls to create a future and also for the corporation because they will have well-prepared people.

Is still hard to say what will help PAGE , but I am sure that a real contract between them and a company/ factory will be a major aid in their development. it is a marketing relationship in the end.

With the team we tried to cover all the possibilities and give PAGE a large view of what they can do. I am happy that I worked with a really great team and we completed each other and the result will be useful for PAGE.

Organize the chaos

This world is crowded, full of information, full of expectations and desires. How can we filter all of them? How can we organize them? How can we relate with them? Those are the questions that pop up in my mind. Connection. This is all about. Have you seen Avatar? Do you remember the way Neytiri made the connection with other avatars and with nature? Science fiction we said, but think that we already have this path between human beings. Social networks, platforms, websites. Life is a congregation of feelings and ideas and we have the power to “read” them. I heard many guys talking against social communities and then I realized: “Hey, they don’t know what we know”.



What we know is what we learned in this 7 weeks. Social networks are there to help you. It is like an entertaining encyclopedia. My advice: learn everything you can, focus on your interests. This is what I did so far. Is interesting that we have the ability to create a mind map unconsciously but it will be easier to explain this to you with an example:



We started as individualists, sharing with others who, what we are and what we can do as persons. Then the process started. We kept continue uniting step by step.

  • First as a team, then with the class, with the teachers. All this connections were fortunately face to face.

  • Secondly, we as a group initiated an uprising progress establishing connections with the NGO, and then with people from all over the world. This was one of the most important step, when we realized we have to make research if we want to find out the channels to communicate with others. As I write in another post, you need a purpose to be totally involved in the procedure. Our purpose is the girls from the Appalachian mountains, so we looked for channels we had to take in consideration the location, the region, the people which can be involved in this NGO, even if they are donors, volunteers or just participants.

What I found also during this course is the force of some goals, how they can transform you. Have you ever thought about how you can ask a question yourself? I didn’t till now. I learned how to be reflective , how to ask myself questions to obtain a good result. Is harder than it seems. Is hard because it is not about you, it is about other persons and you don’t want them to be collateral damages.

For this week I have a conclusion: Connections can be dangerous, unsafe this is why we have to pay attention to every aspect and to keep searching and searching for ways to evolve not do devolve. Facebook, Twitter, Google Hangout, Skype, Kickstarter, Crowdfunder, Catapult, Pinterest, Stumbleupon, Linkedin etc. etc. are all source of inspiration, ways to obtain new ideas and a step forward to design interpersonal connections.

Crowdfunding and Crowdsourcing! If you want a really good explanation about these captions watch the video above:  

For the majority, these terms act like totally unknown in the first place. Even for me. I wasn’t sure about their meaning and the fascinating fact is that I really used them for a large amount of period. My experience with that is What is it about?

  • Search a contest that appeals to you

  • Read carefully the design brief

  • Brainstorm some ideas, work and then upload them

  • Wait for your feedback

  • Work again based on your feedback

  • In the end the customer will choose the winner

For about an year I was a part of 99designs and I can tell you from my experience some facts:

  • Once you start, if you want to win, you have to spend a lot of time working

  • Even if you don’t win you learn so many tips from other designers (with a lot of designs in their background)

  • It is a way to improve your skills in Illustrator and Photoshop

  • You learn ways to attract you customer, how to present the logo in an attractive way for them

  • You have the opportunity to use your imagination

  • Sometimes you don’t win, not because your design wasn’t good, but because someone else design was better (it’s a lesson)

  • In time you develop a style, a brand as a designer, and others will recognize you (you can receive invites in their contest, only because they liked your past designs)

  • Another advice : Try it! You’ll have so many benefits from it.

This is my 99design profile:

Crowdfunding is a more delicate subject because you ask people for money, but we need to admit that it has to be represent not of ‘what’, but of ‘why’. I made some research and I found that in some places in the world crowdfunding is illegal. Though, in this virtual times is the best way to support an organization. Also, I can conclude now that you need to be careful about some aspects if you want to achieve your purpose. If you want to catch people’s attention you need to come with something authentic and unique (think about ice bucket challenge). As an organization you must create and show people realistic goals. In that way you earn their trust. Consequently, the story of your objective needs to be engaging and personal to generate a connection with people. Also, donors has to know which will be the impact after their help. Just show them!


Do you know that the biggest amount of money raised on a crowdfunding platform was for Invisible Children’s Kony campaign on StayClassy (now it’s just Classy) with 4.8 M dollars? Classy is the world’s largest fundraising platform for social good organizations. Their slogan is : “We’re on a mission to mobilize & empower the world for good.”

The second amount of money raised is 1.4M, for the Convent and Academy of the Visitation, on Razoo. What’s Razoo? Another big platform where are more than 90,000 fundraising causes. Their slogan: “Let’s lift the world. Razoo is crowdfunding for causes. “

It sounds really encouraging. And right know I am thinking, how can we help our NGO to reach the same success. What we have so far is that PAGE needs an improvement for their website. Their cause is really hard to sustain because its a local issue. But we have to try. Now me and my team, do everything we can to get feedback from people (it sounds like crowdsourcing, right?). After that we will try to re-brand their website, to find solutions for that. It is very important to have a good-looking, full of information website, it’s a way to show people why you need the capital more than others. If they see an attractive page, they know that you endeavor and work really hard to obtain what you want.

Crowdsourcing and crowdfunding are like the relationship between flowers and bees. The flower is the cause, and the bees pollinate it, bring the missing pieces.

Middle. Middle of the module, middle of the process, middle of our team relationship. The start was ok, full of emotions and confusions but than things changed week by week, day by day. We created a pace. What really means creating a pace? We defined a group personality (based on the decisions we made ). This is what I thought this week about. When I noticed how the ideas blend with our involvement, I realized that a group is like a human being. You can’t be you without an eye or an arm, or even more you can’t survive without your heart. Without your emotions,feeling,wishes you are almost death.

All my life I was an individualist, I was raised in this kind of environment. For example, this is why the first week was on the sign of confusion. Us, as a team were kind of distracted, cold with each other, we were feeling uncomfortable. Strange that when you create a team the first step is to delegate the tasks. In my opinion, after spending time with my team, the most important thing is having clear and logical objectives. We were full of questions about what PAGE is, what do we need in the end, why we do this? We figured it out about our goal and skipped to the next step.

Delegating tasks. It was great that we highlight our skills, so we can support the group. It is very hard to think about what are you good at when you are in a team, with people you don’t know. You don’t know how good they are at the same skills as you.

Then we explode as a team. Everyone had an idea, we came with outside sources, we wanted to move the mountains in one week, which was great because we were full of enthusiasm and initiative. What we forgot? We forgot to organize. The good part though was that we realized this and took action. We wrote everything on paper and thanks to Emilie we have a very, very organized plan, that will help us in the future. We were really surprised when we saw that she sacrificed her time for the sake of the group, so we’ll return this back.

We are just six and it really worked for our team. Now we are organized, we know our goals and tasks, we have most of the solutions, we started with the real research, (because we decided to give to the girls facts not words) so we are in a straight line. I think the number of persons in a team depends on the purpose. How big it is? How many people do we need to succeed? Organization is the key to this. Which one appeals to your group most? Mine is kind of an open type, but there are situations when we really synchronize.


We still have time to make the atmosphere more informal,because we lack on this, but this is the start. Actually, I am impressed with my personal development in such a short time. From a totally individualist person, I found it good now to work in a team. 

This was my experience so far in this team. You can learn too from my story. I can’t wait to learn from yours!

‘Architecture’ is challenging

Preparing for the statistics that we decided to do for our NGO , I started to work on the survey. I didn’t expected to be that hard to concentrate on how people will give their answers. For the last hours I felt like I had to put myself in different personalities and to catch in just a few questions, our main goal, our one and only purpose. We are on the verge of giving to the people a chance to join the same purpose as us and to get involved.

Fortunately, internet is one of the best source of getting information, so I found how to avoid the most common mistakes in a survey. I will share the link with you and you that at some point it will be useful for you: .

Actually people’s kindness is limited and we have to think really deep on ways to make them believe that our objective matters. We are talking about a point on the world map, where some people developed a better living for girls, taking in consideration that now their horizons are restricted. These girls are exactly like us, and their burning desire to have access to knowledge is the reason who has to motivate us, as a community. So how can we convince people that is a good cause, not to fight for, but to help our society.

I had a view of this situation that totally changed the way I was thinking about PAGE. These girls managed to make us a group, to give me a reason to fight for, to create connections between us as people. It is the most beautiful think about this world, the paths intersections are randomly made around the world, without any pattern. So, we have the delegation to raise up a building, as big as possible. How can we convince people that our building is better and safer than others?

What we need is to ask PAGE for the permission to start sharing the survey. As soon as possible I will share with you in here and I am waiting for you to fill it.

Who am I going to be today? This is my question every morning.Since I am here I answered to a lot of questions about me, that now every day is more and more challenging than the one before-hand. I found ways to dig deeper in the questions that suits me. In the last two posts I wrote about me and my perspective. I think is time for a change.So..



How can I understand who are we if I am not completely sure who I am?

Well…Until now I preferred not to make references about the Project community classes, not to write about our team, not binding to that. Why? Because it seems easier to talk about yourself. We are already in Week 4 and right now I’m feeling like I can make a sketch about our work in here. Is incredible to see our progress as a group. In such a short time we are able to recognize that we learned how to be part of a group.

For those who are outsiders, Project Community is a course of our IDE program. My team has to work with PAGE, an NGO, ( and we have to find solutions above rising awareness to their project. We worked really hard on that and even we started three weeks ago my team passed some expected stages. We felt the unconditional commitment and then we realized that we forgot some important things like organizing ourselves. I was really impressed that we were on the same wavelength when it came to create, to come with new ideas. Furthermore, the atmosphere in the group is more comfortable now and I am really happy to see that in my team you can find respect, you can find involvement, you can watch ideas being organized and tasks divided to everybody. 

Our purpose for the PAGE NGO is to improve their social media and network emergence and give them the most accurate data to start the change .We has a meaning and this is sharing the same purpose, the same goal. If so the team evolves by itself.


Network has an abstract significance, but without it, we as a team, and also I as a person will be lost and without the possibility to share ideas. This global community has the gift to form subgroups with the same interests. It is the mechanism for the world nowadays. How can PAGE find donors and volunteers if their purpose as a group can’t be found as an interest in the networks? It is about connections, about creating a bridge between us, between we.


All in all, this are my ideas that I formed after the last class. If I will draw a conclusion, it will be again, a metaphore. Me, we and networks are different steps of a growing plant. Me is the baby plant, and the most developed is the network, but don’t forget that the balance between them is the big WE.

I would like to challenge you about which is the hardest part in this cycle. My answer is ME. When you are just a “baby plant” you have to handle everything alone. As you grow up you find the support easier. If possible, find other answers and let me know about them!
